About From Ashby to Wakeling and beyond
I started looking for Whiteley's which is my Great Grandmothers maiden name and
Goodchild which was the maiden name of my Great Great Grandmother. Thankfully,
Mum had recently visited a newly found cousin and discovered that Her
Grandmother (Nans older sister Lily) was a Wakeling. This is a bit of a puzzle
as she is only a year older. When I started looking I found them under Whiteley
in the 1881 census, this is even more odd as the census was only 5 weeks after
the birth of Lily who we know was a Wakeling. I also found most of the siblings
were registered as Wakeling at birth other than Nan (Violet) and her sister Ivy.
It also appears that the too older boys were married as Whiteley's!!! A puzzle
we will never have an answer to.
I have found some very helpful people when searching the Wakeling and Goodchild
lines and some very kind people who do free searched on certain areas. Much of
the information is possably not on here yet it is still being checked over and
will be added when I have confirmed information. While waiting for birth amd
marriage certificates and a trip to London to look at records, it has expanded
beyond recognition usung the internet much information prior to 1837 is
unchecked, the rest has been double checked on free sites (although these have
some interesting mistakes) in the UK and US.
Names in brackets are either nicknames or alternative spellings.
I hope you find here what you are looking for if you find a mistake please
contact me and comments in my guestbook are most welcome
Thanks Karen
Many thanks to Dennis Wakeling, Peter Brand, Brian Weyda, Yvonne Cooper, and
